Today we held our Aroma Writing workshop – a small intimate group of us. We received writing prompts that were paired with an essential oil- First up?
Where is your joy?
We passed around lemon essential oil and followed instructions to write for five full minutes without ceasing, provided we were so inspired.
And so it goes.
Lemon is lovely. Brings me to my grandmother’s back yard in central Florida- oranges really, but similar notes of citrus…and I am now reminded of the backyard of a relative’s home in a small village in Greece with lemon trees… and olive trees.
Always. lemon. everywhere. In the water, infused in olives, with olive oil, drizzled on the salad…while I was in Greece and all my growing up years. Lemon is a bit of a primordial scent for me, reminding me of my Greek heritage and my Florida roots.
I remember Yia-Yia being so “at home” with the citrus that was all around us in Florida. She, from so far away, coming into Ellis Island and spending her later years in the south. It was not her village in Greece but it was surely a bit of “coming home.” That’s what I realized, from the scent of lemon just now. She is one of my spirit guides- always my guardian angel and so it is fitting she is here in this sacred space with me as I do these sacred things.
Scent memory- it is not just a cute term we toss about when educating others about essential oils- it is something to be experienced. Use the oils religiously with intention and you will have one too.
What joy- to have such a lovely memory of my grandmother!
Lemon (Citrus limon) has a strong, purifying, citrus scent that is revitalizing and uplifting.
