I was recently asked this question. I have had conversations with people over the years who view Reiki as a dark force. I thought it might be time for me to shed light- at least from my perspective. IS Reiki evil? Of course, as a Reiki practitioner and teacher, one could safely assume that I don’t think so.
What is Reiki?
Reiki in my opinion is a form of prayer and akin to “laying on of hands.” When I conduct Reiki on myself or others I am calling on God’s energy and this goes by many names- Source, Universal, Spirit, Lifeforce, Prana to name a few. I suppose Reiki practitioners who are of different faiths such as Hindu, Wicca or Buddhism may call on their own Higher Power/God when embarking on this work. For me, I am calling on “Father, Mother, God, Spirit, Source…” all imbued in my mind and soul with Christ Consciousness. I am not the one with this healing energy- I am just the conduit which is similar to the laying on of hands in the Christian tradition. Persons of different faiths and religions can and do practice Reiki.
Where the veil is thin
When we open ourselves up to Source energy, I do believe a portal is open for the negative energies to come in as well- this is regardless of our faith tradition. One can receive healing at a Christian church service and be at risk for receiving dark energies because the portal- that thin veil- has been opened. As a practitioner, I view any healing, as a sacred honor. It is my duty as a Reiki practitioner to be sure I have prepared the space, prepared myself, cleared away negativities, and set aside my ego so that God’s healing power can come through. I envision this as light.
Reiki Principles
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will be grateful.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today I will be kind to every living thing.
As a Reiki practitioner and teacher I follow a code of ethics: https://iarp.org/iarp-code-ethics/
Frame and Discipline
In my opinion, there are many gifted healers coming from many different backgrounds and beliefs. But as with any practice, one must find a frame and a discipline. Working with integrity and for the Highest good is important. Any healer- Reiki practitioner, nurse, M.D, preacher, priest, medium, psychic (as examples) coming from the wrong frame of reference with ego at the front- has the ability to do great harm. In the vulnerability of ego, the dark can come in. Opening the portal with God rather than ego at the helm is what is paramount. This is all about being mindful and intentional about our work, regardless of what that work may be.
