Chakras are energy points or knots in the subtle body. They are located at the physical counterparts of the major plexuses of arteries, veins and nerves. Chakras are part of the subtle body, not the physical body, and as such are the meeting points of the subtle (non-physical) energy channels. Chakras are often referred to within the context of energy healing and energy medicine such as Reiki and chakra healing can be enhanced by the use of essential oils (applied directly to the energy center/chakra area of the body. I encourage people to anoint themselves intentionally to keep chakras balanced.
There are seven primary energy centers in your energetic body. Each energy center/chakra is representative of a certain set of characteristics.
Crown Chakra: The last primary energy center, the Crown chakra, is located a couple inches above the top of your head. The Crown Chakra represents purpose and spirituality. The Body Systems associated with the Crown Chakra are Endocrine, Nervous and Immune. The corresponding essential oil is Frankincense which improves communication with source.
Third Eye Chakra: The Third eye is located low on the forehead, a little above your eyebrows. The Third eye represents vision, strategy and clair senses. The Body Systems associated with the Third Eye Chakra are Endocrine, Nervous, Visual and Olfactory. The corresponding essential oil is Basil which creates an open mind and clarity of thought.
Throat Chakra: Next is the Throat chakra. The throat chakra represents communication and guidance. The Body Systems associated with the Throat Chakra are Endocrine, Musculoskeletal, Lymphatic, Throat & Mouth and Auditory. The corresponding essential oil is Cistus which stimulates the sense of touch, sight and sound.
Heart Chakra: Your Heart chakra is located in the center of your chest. The Heart Chakra represents relationships and healing as well as the ability to give and receive love. The associated Body Systems are Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Breasts and Musculoskeleltal. The corresponding essential oil is Geranium which brings a sense of joy, well-being, emotional balance and hope.
Solar Plexus Chakra: The Solar chakra is located in the center of your torso, about six inches below your heart. The Solar Plexus Chakra represents mentality, self-worth and structure. The associated Body Systems are Digestive, Renal and Muscoskeletal. The corresponding essential oil is Juniper which evokes feelings of health, love and peace.
Sacral Chakra: The Sacral chakra is between your hips, a couple inches below your navel. The Sacral chakra represents passion and creativity. The associated Body Systems are Reproductive, Renal and Adrenal (Endocrine). The corresponding essential oil is Vetiver which allows sexual energies to become more peaceful and grounded.
Root Chakra: Your Root chakra is an energy center located at your tailbone. The root chakra represents security and survival. The associated Body Systems are Skin, Coccyx (Musculoskeletal) and Reproductive. The corresponding essential oil is Cypress which stengthens and centers and heals emotions.
