I do. Knowing my core desired feelings has been instrumental in allowing me to live the life I want and deserve and Danielle LaPorte’s work has been inspirational for me. I bet it can be for you too.
If you have read my blog or if you are my Facebook “friend” or you follow me on twitter, you know my career has taken huge- as in GINORMOUS turns, finally embracing work that truly feeds me.
Many, many watershed moments, deep talks with my husband, my parents, and my besties, mastermind meetings both large and small, networking, community, friends… along with self-help books, Reiki, essential oils and (during the summer) a boat on the water.
Prayers sent, vision boards created and thousands upon thousands of words read and written.
And what stood out? What resonated? What made my head tilt? What caused a big ole’ Aha! moment?
When I was inspired to ask myself, “How do you want to feel?”
It’s not about goals.
It’s not about achievement. It’s about how I want to feel.
Wow. That’s like so un-coaching. As a coach we are trained to guide clients toward goals. Skip those feelings. Yes, we discuss them but ultimately, we coach toward the goal. You got feelings? Get a therapist. And I did. Years ago- and therapy was life-changing. So much so that I decided to become one. I was a therapist for 20 years so I get that whole “feelings” thing. Right? Apparently not.
So who inspired me to ask that question of myself? Danielle PaPorte.
Core Desired Feelings
Eliminate what you are not resonating with…
Stay away from words like confidence and success – find your own words- your own language- otherwise you are living someone else’s desire…
Be an intentional creator of your own life…
Match your soul with your goals…
What do I want to do, have or experience to [feel the way I want to feel}?
Said differently,
I need to do THIS to feel THIS.
Goals with soul…
And now, my core desired feelings guide me…
I took her up on it and I had a few defining moments.
While doing something I thought I loved to do- an event that represented the pinnacle of my career, I asked myself how I felt actually doing this task that was a culmination of my life’s work.
“Not so much.”
The task certainly represented achievement and goal attainment. But it did not represent how I wanted to feel.
At that moment I declared my desires and began to move into possibility thinking.
In a nutshell I went from 20 years as a psychotherapist asking the proverbial question, “How does that make you feel?” to coaching people toward goal attainment- and now I have come full circle, and I am at the seat of my soul with the full-on feelings paradigm again. But this time it is very different. However she does it, whatever she puts out there- Danielle LaPorte’s spin on goals and desire resonate with me.
If you haven’t read Danielle LaPorte’s The Fire Starter Sessions or The Desire Map, I highly recommend both.
