We are in a pandemic. Because of that I have not been able to see my massage therapist for Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD). I am at high risk due to my lung condition- “Advanced Stage Sarcoidosis” so I have been cloistered since COVID-19 became an issue the beginning of March. Lymphatic support has been crucial for me.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
I began receiving MLD years ago to address another condition. I was born with primary lymphedema, mostly affecting my left leg and foot. The MLD really helps with swelling and overall wellness. A secondary benefit is that MLD has also helped me manage my lung congestion. And truth be known, MLD helps most people with positive lymph flow. The lymphatic system seems to be the least talked about but truly is at the forefront for people dealing with any autoimmune disorder.
Dry Skin Brushing
I was recently interviewed by Woman’s World magazine about how MLD has helped me not just with lymphedema but also my lung disorder. I explained that in times that I cannot receive an MLD treatment I take steps at home. I use a technique known as “Dry Skin Brushing” though I do a variation of my own and rather than use soft bristle brush on dry skin, I use a silicone bath and body brush with a long handle with ultra-soft bristles in the shower and a smaller silicone pad for my face. Dry brushing is most common and used by most people but I find the soft silicone with water really helps redistribute the lymph fluid. The article only spoke to the dry brush method. For specific technique view the video in this reprint of the article HERE.
I am pleased that I could be interviewed by such a popular magazine because hopefully my story will inspire others. While the article mainly focused on MLD and skin brushing as the ways I support my health, the truth is, I engage in an entire wellness lifestyle.
What are the components of my wellness lifestyle?
