Today I was displaced in my own home. It was planned but still, it can feel awkward. Even moving around in your own home.
I scheduled a resurfacing of my bathtub. When I bought this place the existing tub was well-worn so an update has been in order from the beginning. As I said, all of this planned and I was told to vacate the place for a few days while the job is completed and the new coat cures.
So, I moved operations downstairs. Me, my laptop, my bedding for the futon, a few days of clothing and… my cat. With all her stuff. I remembered I had an essential oil diffuser in the downstairs guest bath. For guests. And being a guest in my own home, I figured I would avail myself.
Problem was, as the resurface began upstairs, I realized I needed my essential oils and I couldn’t go back up to retrieve them. I had a bottle of lavender in my purse (have oils, will travel) and that was it. At least, until the mail came… and a sweet friend sent me a holiday pressie that included hinoki essential oil. Hinoki is Japanese cypress and oh what a wonderful aroma!
I used 3 drops each, lavender and hinoki and discovered a wonderful and easy hack for those toxic fumes, that despite all efforts, were wafting their way to the downstairs.
These were the two oils I had on hand. Don’t be afraid to try different combos. I always say, use whatever oils you have on hand.
When diffused, hinoki also imparts a calming influence. Lavender promotes a general sense of well-being. You can’t go wrong with that combo!
That’s my slumber kitty. Her name is Sarah.
She loves essential oils too. And yes, I use essential oils responsibly around my cat.
It’s just scentsible.
