Yea, it’s not my most glamorous post, I know. But, it is news you need if you (or your dog) suffer from hot spots. You heard me. Hot spots. And not the kind of hotspot that brings internet capability.
I have blogged before about this, so if you regularly read my stuff you know I have autoimmune issues. What I have learned about managing my autoimmune disorder(s) is that it means managing every system of the body, including the skin. It’s called the integumentary system and the scalp is part of that system.
Particularly during a flare, my scalp gets hot spots. They itch and flake. The sores usually appear on the scalp for most people. There are all sorts of dermatological terms for similar scalp problems but suffice it to say, I feel like a dog must feel. So I use the term relegated to them.
My last bout with this annoyance brought me to new levels of urgency for relief! And I found it. Now I am sharing with you so you can go from having hot spots on your head to being a haute head once again.
Haute Spot Recipe
- 10 ml roll-on bottle
- Fill 2/3 full with apple cider vinegar (must have “the mother”)
- Add 10 drops tea tree and 10 drops lemongrass essential oils
- Fill to the top with a carrier oil such as sweet almond or jojoba
- Put the roller ball and lid on and shake well before each use. Just glide the roller ball once or twice over the irritated spot.
Relief will be yours in short order!
Maintaining Scalp Health
To keep my scalp healthy I use non-toxic, all natural and organic shampoo and conditioner. For me, washing my hair daily helps. Use warm but not hot water. Between the shampoo and conditioner, I rinse with apple cider vinegar. You can find organic hair products in most health food stores.
If you color your hair, try foils instead so that the color does not touch your scalp. And if you go to a salon, don’t be shy about taking your own hair products with you such as your shampoo and conditioner. Explain to your stylist that you have a sensitive scalp and you are avoiding any hair care products with chemicals or fragrance. Fragrance contains chemicals as opposed to natural aroma from plant material or essential oils.
Finally, use this hair conditioner daily and it truly has made a difference.
