Essential oils hold energy. They have a vibration. And so do each of us. The easiest way to envision energy or vibration is to think about an aura. Some of us can literally see auras around people, animals and even plants- an aura is often described as an energy field.
Imagine that along with the volatile life force liquid of the plant which is the actual essential oil, the aura of that plant, flower or tree is also harnessed. The full essence of the plant- the immune-boosting properties, the energetic vibrations and the spiritual dimensions- are bottled and protected for us to use at will.
When I open a bottle of essential oil or an essential oil blend, especially that first time, it is as if the aura, the energetic field, dances out of the bottle first. If I could see it, it might look something like that puff of alluring smoke that comes out of the genie bottle- jumping out first, followed by the aroma.
When I instruct people about essential oils, this “oil aura” is why I recommend they open the bottle and hold the bottle at waist level, bringing it slowly up to the nose with wide swirls. This allows the nasal palate to become attuned to the scent and the aura of the oil to mingle with the aura of the person. As they mingle, we can imagine the vital life force of the plant influencing our own energy field. When we smell the oil, diffuse the oil or apply the oil topically, the oil further influences our body systems.
I offer this description so that you might be able to form a visual and create a new level of mindfulness and intention around your use of essential oils. If you have never experienced essential oils then you might now be thinking that essential oils offer support to the mind, body and spirit. You would not be wrong. I have heard it said that the oils know what we need. They are liquid consciousness; they are beings in a bottle.
I hold a deep respect for essential oils and for the very process that allows essential oils into my life. The growing, cultivating, harvesting, and distilling of these oils is a process that takes an extreme amount of talent and skill. When you are seeking out an essential oil company, be sure the company engages in or supports sustainable farming, is free of pesticides, “food-grade” and quality tested. These are but just a few of checklist items to consider when vetting essential oils.
I write in this way to hopefully impart the deeper nuances when using essential oils. They heighten our awareness and senses and offer natural ways to nourish and support, physically, mentally and spiritually.
As with any essential oil, remember to check for and be sure if you ingest the oil that you are using a therapeutic grade or “food grade” oil. Essential oil safety is important so that you can enjoy the full effect of these powerful substances!
